Three Questions to CEO Dr. Torsten Bremer

Since 1 September 2014, the Chinese company TMT has been the owner of BOGE Rubber & Plastics. The first regular general assemblies at the Damme, Simmern and Bonn locations this year and also various discussions with employees have shown that employees often have similar questions. CEO Dr. Torsten Bremer gives answers to three selected questions.

Have the promises made by TMT been kept when taking over the company in 2014?

In fact, the latter have even been more than fulfilled, among other things in order to significantly expand global capacity. Examples include China, Mexico, Germany and Slovakia. We, the management, have never doubted that right from the start. The growth is also reflected in the number of employees: The BOGE Rubber & Plastics Group had approximately 4,300 employees at the end of the past financial year (2017) - in 2014 around 3,500 people were employed by the group.

TMT Becomes First Chinese Oil Tank Interior Coating Supplier

TMT’s proprietary railcar transformer oil tank interior coating recently passed customer evaluations and was judged to be qualified for high-speed EMU (electronic multiple unit) use.

The coating insulates EMU transformer’s interior walls. It is the final insulating structure, or“protection layer”, which is crucial to the transformer endurance. Oil tanks hold silicone oil at a high temperature, requiring the coating to resist aging while also being thermostable. This dual requirement has long bottlenecked the technology for Chinese enterprises. Such products were previously supplied only by Japanese companies.

TMT conducted multiple tests including simulating operation on insulation system testing platform in the past two years. The results is a greatly improved coating that passed tests for insulating oil aging and high temperature electric properties. Third party testing indicates that the coating has several advantages over competing imported products in such crucial properties as thermal aging resistance, resistivity, and salt spray resistance.

TMT Wins First Vibration Isolation Elastic Product Order

TMT has won its first order for vibration isolation elastic pads for the Chang-Zhu-Tan (Changsha, Zhuzhou and Xiangtan) intercity railway project, worth over 10 million yuan. This good news came from China Railway Tunnel Stock Co., Ltd. on November 16. Vibration isolation elastic pads, also called damping elastic cushions, installed under railroad beds, are essential to dampen vibration and reduce noise.Such products make the ride more comfortable since there’s less vibration into the cars, and thus are widely used in city rail transit, passenger dedicated lines, heavy haul railways and intercity railways, with a market capacity of over 200 million yuan.

TMT is keenly interested in the vibration isolation pad market. Its products had a pilot run in 2013 on a 30-ton-axle-load heavy haul railway for Shanxi Central South Railway which was stated construction in 2009. TMT products were also tested in the Datong-Xi’an Passenger Dedicated Railway Line in 2014. These successful experiences have prepared and qualified TMT to enter the intercity railway market this year.

Recently TMT has continued to innovate in marketing and sales by shifting from “selling what we manufacture” to “manufacturing and selling what customers need”. TMT’s current marketing strategy is customer-driven, instead of product-driven. This shift in marketing and strategy has given TMT great advantage in market development. Winning the Chang-Zhu-Tan vibration isolation elastic pads project would not have been possible without TMT’s prior experience in this field, a full understanding of customer demand, a joint effort of the domestic and overseas marketing, technical and HR team, and excellent leadership. This order marks a successful start for TMT to penetrate this market.

China’s Scientific Antarctic Expedition Uses TMT Products

On 4 November, the Polar Research Institute of China, part of the State Oceanic Administration, took delivery of an Antarctic expedition vehicle to be used in its 32nd exploration of this continent. It is equipped with TMT’s vibration damping and noise reduction system—a critical feature needed for travel over the Antarctic’s rugged terrain.

This independently-developed TMT product reduces vibration and noise in this all-terrain expedition transport and rescue vehicle. It is constructed of rubber, plastics and polymers such as polyurethane (PU).

TMT’s Overseas Department explores emerging markets relying on its advantages in technologies and its overseas market resources. Since 2010, TMT has begun partnering Singapore Technologies Engineering, Ltd., Asia’s most influential defense and engineering group, to explore the special equipment market. In cooperation with multinationals, TMT is breaking into markets that have historically been monopolized by foreign enterprises, and has recently obtained several special equipment projects. Advanced technologies and experience in international cooperation gives TMT advantages over other major competitors and it is now the sole supplier for the Antarctic expedition project.
